What is veganism?

Of course, we all have some ideas about what is veganism and what do vegans eat. But being vegan is more than just a diet.

Being a true vegan is coming behind the idea of respecting animals and refusing to use anything that may harm or hurt animals. Not consuming any animal products or involving any animal exploitation. Not consuming any meat, dairy, honey, fur, or any animal power is the key to accepting a vegan lifestyle.

With veganism growing with such power, we can safely say that we are living in the best time to be vegan!

Why is this the best time to be vegan?

Frist of all, veganism has its higher degree of followers today since the beginning of the philosophy. Of course, we cannot say anything specific about when veganism born. But we know for a fact, this year the Vegan Society is celebrating its 74th anniversary.

Every day more activations to veganism are running, and more people are getting aware of the vegan lifestyle. Also, each day the number of vegan brands are increasing. Shoe brands such as; Eco Vegan Shoes, Good Guys Don’t Wear Leather, or Nemanti. Yoga and fitness clothing; Hey Honey, Unicorn Goods, Peaceful Dumpling. Vegan baby products; Earth Mama Organics, Once Upon a Farm, Happy Baby Organic. Also, some food brands are offering some vegan options for its customers. Such as; Alpro, Beyond Meat, and Innocent Drinks.

In 1001 Remedies we believe that animal cruelty should never be a part of our lives and we are choosing our products to be vegan. Our products are specially created with nature’s ingredients and 100% organic as well.

Even though accepting a vegan lifestyle has its moral and health benefits, some researches also show that a vegan diet can be very dangerous for some people. The deficiency of some vitamins and minerals which can mostly be taken from animal products should be considered carefully. After a careful consideration, some vitamins can be taken in addition or new food groups can be introduced to the diet.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is very important for the human body in terms of the hormone balance, immune regulation, digestion and fertility. While we thought Vitamin D could be taken from mushroom, the usable Vitamin D, the natural D3, can be mostly taken from animal products. It can be found mostly in pastured egg yolks, cod liver oil and dairy products from grass-grazing animals.

Vitamin K2

We all know that calcium is very important for our body and especially for our bones. But the fact that few of us are aware is we need Vitamin K2 in order to get the actual benefit from the calcium. Vitamin K2 is the main element that carries the calcium to the bones. And without it, our bodies cannot use the calcium to build up bones. You can get Vitamin K2 in pastured egg yolks, milk and cheese from grass-fed animals, liver, be, and chicken. Unfortunately, you cannot get Vitamin K2 from plants, exceptionally from natto, a fermented soybean product.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is essential for our bodies to maintain healthy hormone balance, immune regulation, digestion, and fertility.

Yes, you can get Vitamin A from carrots. But in order to get enough Vitamin A to answer the need for your body, the amount of the food needs to be very high. On the other hand, Vitamin A can be found in large percentage in liver, or pastured egg yolks.

Omega-3 fatty acids

These polyunsaturated fats are vital for regulating blood clotting, brain, and heart health, and controlling inflammation. Even though some plant-based solutions can be found in rapeseed and flaxseed oils, some nuts such as walnuts, or hazelnuts, pumpkin seeds, soya, and soy products; only the small of thee these short-chain fats can be converted into long-chain fats. On the other hand, oily fish such as salmon, mackerel, and sardines are very rich in Omega-3 fatty acids.

Iron

Iron is very important for blood production. The lack of iron may cause for us to feel dizzy, tired, or even anaemia. Our bodies mostly get iron from the red mean. Although there are some plant-based products that are very rich in iron such as beans, lentils, chickpeas, quinoa, some nuts, and seed. Then what is the problem? The difference is, plant-based iron and animal-based iron have very different forms. While the body can absorb animal-based iron very easily, plant-based iron takes much longer time to be absorbed and get its efficiency.

When it comes to diet, whatever works well for someone else may not always be the best diet for you. It is always wise to discuss with your doctor about your physical health and diet. Even though your morals are not letting you eat some food groups, you should always put your health to the first plan.
