After the holiday season and its excesses, at 1001 Remedies, we decided to start our new year resolution with a detoxification.
How did we know we need it? Well, a detoxification should be done at least once a year and with the unexplained end-beginning of the year fatigue, we thought it was an optimal time for a clean-start this 2018.
Detoxification, already practised for centuries by Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine systems, is about resting, cleansing, purifying and nourishing your body from the inside out. In one word? Renewal. Detoxifying support your ability to maintain optimum health through a range of habits and help protect yourself from disease by eliminating toxins and feeding your body with healthy nutrients at the same time.
Now, how does it work? It's a short-term cure essentially based on fresh organic fruits and vegetables found in the liquid format: juices or soups. Plenty of fibre, including brown rice, artichokes, cabbage, broccoli, spirulina, chlorella.. are excellent detoxifying foods. Cleansing and protect by taking herbs such as dandelion root. Drink a lot of water and eliminate alcohol, cigarettes, coffee and saturated fat which act as toxins hindering your healing process. Its power? Purifying the organism evacuating toxic substances accumulated.
Another obstacle to health is stress. Yoga or meditation are practised as a complement of the detoxifying process as they help relieve stress and tensions resetting your mental and physical reactions.
So how to clean your body in a healthy way? Here are 5 of our ideas for a January clean start detox:
- Eat and of most importantly drink: Water, organic fruits and vegetables, herbs. In juice, smoothie or soups. There are plenty of delicious combination for a healthy treat and a bunch of vitamins, fibres and antioxidants. Creativity!
- Exercise and Practice Yoga: it's an excellent way to ease away stress and certainly the most important part of detoxifying as well as bringing lots of health benefits.
- Breathe: deeply to allow more oxygen to circulate in your system. Practice meditation and take time for yourself to relax and rest. Applying some relaxing balm on your tensions points during your session or during your bedtime ritual will help with this calming scents to ease away anxieties and feel mindful.
-Take a warm bath: Create a spa heaven at home, in your bathroom. Sweat to eliminate toxins from your skin's pores. Cleanse your skin at the same time.
-Detox your home: Reduce the use of chemical-based household cleaners or personal care products such as shampoos, deodorants... and switch to more natural alternatives. Our advice here is to spritz some purifying room spray around for a healthily scented space and a detoxified air. The 19 essentials oils it contains has natural antiviral properties. Allowing you to breathe a fresher air. Boosting at the same time yourself defences.
