Our Favourite Essential Oils

Our Favourite Essential Oils
Essential oils have been used for thousands of years as remedies, skin therapies, and personal fragrances. The ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Indians, and Chinese all used concentrated oil from plants and herbs for a multitude of purposes. Aromatherapy uses aromatic essential oils medicinally to improve the health of the body, mind, and spirit; they enhance both physical and emotional health. Each essential oil has an array of unique healing properties, uses, and effects. Combining essential oils to create a synergistic blend creates even more benefits. Created in France, the birthplace of Aromatherapy, and blending exceptional ingredients sourced with care and caution around the world,‘1001 Remedies’ are very special. We are more than just a beauty product, our skincare products are ‘remedies! Here are our top five essential oils used in our products.

Citronella

The health benefits of Citronella Essential Oil can be attributed to its properties as an antibacterial, antidepressant, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory. Used in a diffuser, vaporiser or oil burner, it is said that its relaxant qualities can help create a calming atmosphere. It has a soothing, cleansing and refreshing aroma. This beautiful essential oil is used in Magic Skin gel to help treat wounds and keep them clean.

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus Essential Oil is widely used for its medicinal and industrial purposes. In its industrial applications, it is used in disinfectants, air fresheners and deodorizers. It is also a common ingredient in make-ups, perfumes, liniments, mouthwashes, soaps, deodorants, inhalant, lozenges and antiseptics. Eucalyptus Essential Oil is also known for its ability to treat a wide range of respiratory diseases such as cough, colds, asthma, sinusitis and bronchitis. This makes it the perfect air detoxifier which we use in our room spray Purair.

Myrrh

Myrrh essential oil is high in antioxidants to fight free radicals that can damage or destroy healthy cells. It can also destroy bacteria that can lead to acne or fungus that can cause red itchy skin. As an added benefit, it can also strengthen the hair roots helping to prevent hair loss. These are some of the reasons we use Myrrh in magic skin!

Lavender

Lavender oil is known for its calming and relaxing properties, which may aid in alleviating insomnia, anxiety, depression, restlessness and stress. Due to its wide variety of uses, lavender oil may help with nearly all kinds of ailments, from pain to infections. Making essential oils part of your bedtime routine can also help train your mind to associate the specific scent with falling asleep. We use this relaxing oil in our goodnight balm to promote a restful night’s sleep.

Cinnamon

‘’Cinnamon Oil’s’ health benefits include managing diabetes, alleviating menstrual pain, acting as perfume, fighting inflammation, fighting bacteria, supporting oral and dental health, preventing cancer, supporting respiratory health, managing pain, and repelling mosquito. It has a bittersweet smell that is very calming and also helps you unwind after a long day. Cinnamon essential oil boosts the functioning of our immune system. Our bodies are then more capable to deal with minor and major infections and diseases. It can even prevent auto-immune conditions in which the immune system of the body itself leads to the disease which is why we use it in Purair

Top three home-made face masks!

Top three home-made face masks!

Although there are some great face masks on the market, it is really easy to create amazing ones using the ingredients you have in your kitchen! Whipping up a quick freshly made face mask is great fun and delivers a boost of nutrients to your skin. Here are our favourite three recipes for achieveing beautiful skin with the ingredients you have in your own kitchen!

Clay Mask for Acne prone skin

Clay face masks can help treat blackheads, spots and other blemishes by unblocking pores, alleviating toxins and balancing out or replenishing the natural occurring oils of the face. Clay has the capability to absorb any excess oils, grime and other unwanted toxins from the skin. As well as exfoliating and toning, it will also promote the growth of new cells! Green clay is particularly beneficial for problem or acne-prone skin, as it has wonderful cleansing abilities and will draw out any unwanted toxins or impurities and then shrink the pores to stop them getting back in. Aloe vera gel can help sooth and moisturize the skin, and is particularly beneficial for certain skin conditions involving inflammation or dry skin. Aloe vera gel can soften dry skin, heal scars, soothe sunburns, and speed up the healing and moisturizing of dry inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. It can also speed up the healing of acne, and it’s antiseptic properties can prevent further flare-ups.

Ingredients:

2 table spoons of green clay

1 table spoon of aloe vera gel

Mix ingredients together in a bowl and apply a thick layer to the skin, leave for 10-15 mins and rinse off.

Oat and Honey mask for sensitive skin

Oats gently exfoliate skin and are also anti-inflammatory, making them ideal for dry, itchy skin. Antioxidant-rich and antibacterial honey is another ingredient with acne-fighting power, helping to balance skin tone and leave you glowing.  For anyone with irritated skin, this will work as an anti-inflammatory. It also aids in preventing skin ageing, and is rich in anti-oxidants. Honey also contains an enzyme that produces hydrogen peroxide, a well-known disinfectant. A thin coating of honey can be applied to the skin to disinfect and heal minor skin wounds and chapped lips.

Ingredients:

2 table spoons of raw honey

1 table spoon of ground oats

Mix together in a bowl and apply a trick layer to the skin for 20-25 mins before rinsing off with cool water.

Avocado, Olive Oil and Apple Cider Vinegar Moisturising & Brightening  face mask

The high content of Vitamin A in avocado helps in the removal of dead cells from the body. Vitamin C is an antioxidant, and is involved in the creation of elastin and collagen which bind your skin cells together and maintain your skin's firmness. Avocados also contain an amino acid called glutamine which cleans and protects your skin from environmental damage. Avocado oil is a great moisturiser for skin; it can soften dry skin and is often used as an ingredient in massage lotions. Due to it's ease of absorbtion, it can penetrate deep into the layers of the skin to clean and restore nutrients. Avocados also have powerful humectant qualities which can draw water from the skin and plump it up. The antioxidants in avocados help eliminate the toxins that are responsible for premature ageing and wrinkling of the skin. Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant which helps in preventing free radical damage by oxidizing fats in your skin cells which helps to prevent skin ageing. Olive oil has been used for centuries as a beauty routine to improve skin condition; the properties of olive oil do not clog your pores as many moisturizers you find on store shelves may. It penetrates deep within your skin's layers and the oil provides protection from free radicals while cleansing the skin cells. The combination of vitamin A and vitamin E in olive oil repairs cells from harmful environmental factors. Vinegar is rich in potassium, which helps regulate the skin's pH levels and also helps treat allergies. The lactic, acetic, and malic acids in vinegar are powerfully anti-fungal and also have antibacterial properties which help treat and prevent infections. Additionally, these compounds are also great at reducing inflammation and relieving dry, itchy skin.

Ingredients:

1 mashed avocado

1 table spoon olive oil

1 tea spoon apple cider viager

Mix the ingredients together in a bowl, apply for 15-20 mins and rinse off thoroughly with cool water.

Best Travel Tips

Best Travel Tips

Sun, sea and a lot of traveling! This week we asked the beautiful London based model and influencer Rudie Mccree (@rudiemccree) about her top tips to stay looking and feeling fresh whilst travelling, plus why she enjoys using our products!

What are your 'in-flight' must haves?

Flying always really irritates and dries out my skin so I also make sure I have a really hydrating face mask with me to apply on the plane to make sure my skin stays nourished. I am a really light sleeper and struggle to sleep on the plane, a little goodnight balm helps me relax and chill out on the plane. A few s'pritz' of 'Purair' throughout the flight is a really nice way to feel a little more refreshed and stops me from feeling nauseous.

What three products could you not travel without?

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream is a real favorite of mine to use on lips and dry areas of my skin. Sun and salt can really dry out your lips so making sure I have an intense treatment for them is a must!

1001 Remedies Treasure Oil is an amazing multi-purpose oil. The travel size is  ideal for throwing in your handbag whilst your out and about and putting on your hair and skin as and when you need.

It’s always a must to pack some sort of healing cream for your trip! Cuts, bites, grazes and spots are always bound to happen! A reliable 'healing potion' is a necessity when going away!

How do you maintain the perfect tan?

Making sure I have the right SPF for my skintype. I tan quite well so enjoy using an oil in SPF 30 as this offers enough protection without prevnting me from getting any colour. Aftersun care is really improtant to ensuring your tan is glowy and healthy, the 1001 Remedies Treasure Oil is incredibly replensihing and nourishing after a day in the sun.

In-flight Skincare Routine

I never wear make-up to the airport if I can avoid it. As soon as the plane takes off I make sure to gently cleanse my skin with a hydrating toner and apply a really hydrating sheet mask leaving it on for as long as I can. Once I removed the sheet mask I make sure to massage in any remaining serum left on the skin before layering over an intense moisturiser and finish with a hydrating spray. Throughout the flight I keep my skin topped up with moisturiser and spray to ensure it stays hyrdrated.

How do you make sure you still get a good nights sleep even on long haul flights?

I always make sure i travel with a neck pillow, some slipper socks, a large scarf or blanket and both Purair and Goodnight balm. Making yourself as comfortable and cozy as posssible plus the fresh scent of purair and the calming properties of goodnight balm are great for easing you into a sleep so you last feeling fresh and rested.

Any tips for keeping your hair healthy whilst you in the sun and sea?

Keep a hair oil on hand at all times! In the flight, in your beach bag, making sure you are keeping your hair nourished is so important. 1001 Remedies treasure oil is ideal for retainig your hair's moisture. Night treatments are also great! Either applying a lot of treasure oil or a conditioning mask to leave in overnight.

How do you make sure you are eating healthy on the plane?

Preperation is key! Plane food is never very healthy and often not very tasty either. Making sure you stock up on healthy food once your through security is really important. Fresh fruits, salads, snack bars, smoothies, nuts and snack bars are all brilliant to snack on during your flight. You also need to make sure you are drinking a lot of water! Flights are really dehydrating so making sure you are drinking enough water whilst your on your flight is really important!
